Arnaud struggled early with the high altitude track in Colorado. He qualified just inside the top 15 and knew he had his work cut out for him if he wanted to do well. In moto one, Tonus got off to a decent start and was running 11th through the first lap. Suddenly, disaster struck as Arnaud got together with his teammate Forkner. The crash was devastating and timing and scoring had Tonus running in 32nd. The work began for the Swiss rider as he started to pick off the riders in front of him,
one by one. He followed his fellow Kawasaki teammate who crashed with him and they were able to make their way through the pack pretty smoothly. They were both able to keep a fast pace and work their way past many riders. Tonus ended up salvaging an 18th place finish right behind his rookie teammate. In moto two, Arnaud knew he had to keep the bike on two wheels if he wanted a shot at achieving a commendable overall score. He got another decent start and was running near the top ten early.
