Jeremy Martin has been a bit overshadowed by the rise of his older brother so far this season so entering the race in Lakewood he wanted to show everybody that he is still the champ. He threw down the gauntlet in qualifying practice by notching the fastest lap time half a second quicker than
anyone else. He was ready to get back to his winning ways. The first moto kicked off with the Rockstar Star Racing Yamaha boys going 1-2-3-4 in the opening laps. Martin was second in that pack of blue and began to stalk Cooper Webb for the lead. They yo-yo’d back and forth for the first ten minutes of the race before Martin was finally able to make the pass. He decided to make the pass because he saw a revved up Kawasaki rider in Joey Savatgy closing in fast. Martin tried to distance himself from Savatgy
but he would come right up the inside with ten minutes left in the race and immediately begin to pull away. Martin had a good distance between him and Webb in third and it looked as if he was going to be content finishing the moto in second but with three laps to go Sa- vatgy threw it away gifting the lead back to Martin. Martin accepted the gift and took the moto win. Moto number two started with Martin getting another pretty solid start up in fifth place. He didn’t look too aggressive in the early stages and lost a spot to older brother
Alex sending him back to sixth. That seemed to fire him up a bit and he picked up the pace and finally got around Shane McElrath to move back into fifth. He then picked up another position due to Adam Cianciarulo going down putting him into fourth ten minutes into the race. As the laps went by Martin slowly lost touch with his brother leaving him all alone in fourth. He kept putting in good laps and eventually caught up to Martin Davalos in the late stages of the moto. He made the move with three laps to go and would hold on the rest of the way for third. His 1-3 moto scores would be good enough for second overall on the day and he is only three points behind series points leader Joey Savatgy.
