All three riders had just enough of a gap between them after lap one so that no one could really show a wheel on one another. They all set very similar lap times and at the end of the race there would be no changes in position leaving Mashburn with a third in the moto
and a third overall. The Schoolboy 1 class began with Mashburn putting together a solid second place finish in his heat race setting himself up with a chance at the title in the second moto. He knew a good start would get himself in good position but unfortunately the opposite would end up happening. After a dismal first lap, Mashburn rounded lap one in twentieth place. Not the place any racer wants to be but he dug deep and climbed the ladder all the way up to eleventh place. He never gave up as he set his fastest lap on the last lap trying to get one more spot to crack the top ten. Definitely not the finish he was looking for but he gave a valiant effort nonetheless. Mashburn raced the first motos of both 250 B and Schoolboy 2 securing a sixth and an eighth but would not make it to the line for the second moto of either class.
