The Minnesota rider had a solid start to the night in Toronto; starting in 5th and moving into a cush- ion-y 4th halfway through the short Heat Race. A very simple, very smooth, and a very safe race. That is, compared to the Main Event. Another great 5th place start brought Jesse into turn two where the #201 of Cedric Soubeyras smashed into him and others as if his brakes had gone out. For Wentland, there was no chance of riding out of it, he was surrounded. He remounted in 13th, fell back to 14th around
lap 7 because, after all, he wasn’t the only fast guy who went down on lap 1. For the second half of the race, Jesse kept picking off riders one by one, eventually ending up 7th behind Bowers with two laps to go. If ever somebody needed proof that they were a top 5 guy, the best way would be to crash on the first lap and still fin- ish with only four riders ahead of you. He caught Audette for 6th and Bloss for 5th, just edging out a charging Malcolm Stewart at the end. And he was in it, the coveted top 5 in Supercross and he had to pass 8 or 9 riders to do it. Just imagine what he could do in Detroit next weekend with a clean first lap...
