Gannon Audette was certainly one rider who benefitted from the first lap carnage in the Toronto
Main Event. Perhaps, this was to make up for the bad luck he had earlier on in the night. Audette had a poor jump of the gate in Heat 1 which put him in the wrong place at the wrong time going
into the first turn. Malcom cut over on Plessinger, who clips his rear wheel. Plessinger bike swaps right into Gannon, slapping him into the outside of the third turn burn that the first turn hooks around. He managed 13th after the first lap and 9th by the end of the heat which was just good enough to send him straight to the main. Lining up on the same way-inside for the main, Audette was able to stay out of the havoc in the first and second turns. After the chaotic first lap, Gannon was in 7th and was
up to 5th by halfway thanks to Meclarath going down. Just after this Bowers makes a mistake and Gannon is in 4th going into the last stretch of the race. Frye resurges, putting him back in 5th, a mistake in the whoops let Frye a pull away and Gannon began to fade with 4 laps to go. Bloss passes him moving him back to 6th and Wentland catches him too, landing him in 7th. The last lap shuffle had Gannon in 9th and finally in 8th after some of the faster riders made their last gasps for the top 5. Overall, a solid race for Audette. He’ll be looking to maintain positions more in Michigan next weekend.
