It wasn’t until late in practice that Christophe stepped up the risk level and steered his way into the 1st place
spot, making his qualifying prowess a common trend as of late. Looking to continue the success into moto
one, Pourcel rallied the uphill start to 3rd coming out of the first turn. Finding the fast lines in the next few turns, the Frenchman picked up 2nd before mixing around with the top four riders in the usual first lap tango. Half way through the opening lap, though, Christophe had solidified third and began to hassle Phil Nicoletti while all the riders began to let it all hang out. Missing “the Bomber”, the 120-foot uphill triple that can ruin momentum, CP377 lost touch of Nicoletti and allowed Ken Roczen by shortly after. In a domino effect, Pourcel was, then, quickly shuffled back to 5th after Barcia made a move in the next few turns. A lap later, in bam-bam fashion, Barcia happened to take himself and his teammate, Nicoletti, down allowing Pourcel up to third temporarily before Tomac made his way by a few laps later. Now in 4th, Christophe found his home and maintained the spot for the remainder of the race.
