Having the speed and poise of a veteran, Forkner’s strengths were demonstrated in his morning practice sessions where the young gun put forth the 4th fastest lap. Having a solid option at the starting line, Austin was definitely a considerable threat but was unable to take advantage of his gate pick coming out in 10th
to start lap two. Trading spots with contenders like Zach Osborne and Jeremy Martin, Forkner was pushed back to 12th early where he stayed for the first several laps. As the clock ticked past the halfway mark, Aus- tin got by a downed Ciancurulo to reach 11th. Staying still in 11th, it wasn’t until the two lap board went up that things started happening in the moto for Forkner as he got by Hampshire and a struggling Alex Martin for 9th place. It was short-lived, though, as RJ got back by pushing Austin to 10th for the finish of moto one.
