After some difficult heat races, Lucas headed into the main events on Monday with a 22nd in the 65cc 10-11 class and a 14th in the 7-11 age group. Although these results may not have been the exact outcome little Giestler was looking for, the main’s showed promise as in his 2nd
qualifying race he was just over 6 seconds quicker than the first. Improvements. As Monday began, Lucas’ first main event was race number 12, the 65cc 7-11 class. As already mentioned, Lucas entered with a qualifying spot of 14th and the momentum of progress behind his back. In the race, Geistler got off to a mid-pack start, struggling to clear his path of the large class size. Corners were holding up to 5 riders at a time as nearly the entire class remained side-by-side over the first few laps. Geistler, on Lap 2 fell back to 26th with a lap time not quite at the pace of those he followed. Dropping back to 27th for Lap 3 and 4, Geistler put on a late charge posting his best time on his second to last lap. With the increase in speed, Lucas gained two positions back, with a finish of 25th. Unfortunately for LG, the front runners were posting times up to 12 seconds faster a lap in the earlier stages of the race preventing him from completing all 7 laps. Looking to Main number two, main event 1 left plenty of room to improve just as he had done during the qualifiers, yet Lucas opted out and called quits on the day and was awarded
a DNF for the 65CC 10-11 class. LG will bounce back, though, as he’s done before. I’m sure that for a weekend in Daytona,
Geistler was stoked to spend time on his KTM 65, with his dad and the industry behind him.
