aggressive and under control, never letting his emotions get in the way, but feeding off his inner drive and rage when necessary. His style is full of poise and finesse, yet efficient enough to not let anything be gone to waste. He knew, with the plethora of classes he’d lined up for this particular event, that he would have to bottle every ounce of energy possible to generate the finishes he’d hoped for. He knew deep down though, that it was a definitely manageable task, and it would put his hard work to use in the 85cc (12-13) divi- sion. Battling with the likes of Towers, Shelly, and Colip, the Team Green machine was the first of his kind in the bunch full of KTM’s and
Many thought from the outside, that he must’ve exceeded his expectations in route to this many wins. However, Romano is a champion at heart, and knew that he could accomplish a feat like this, all along.
MARK FINEIS
If you want to talk about truly running the table for 2018, look no further than the Fineis crew out of Zionsville, Indiana. Both Mark and his brother have gone to practically every national and regional race on the map. Not only attending, but vying for race wins, with one trying to best the other, in a bit of family rivalry. It was the same idea when the
crew packed up to head south to Gainesville, Flori- da, for the 2018 Winter Olympics. Although a tad more keen on motocross, he showed the ability to adapt to the Supercross circuit rather well, mixing in a plethora of good starts and defense mech- anisms to deter the field behind him. He would re- ally begin to put together his race sequencing, as the 85cc (12-13) Limited class came to be. Just behind Gavin Tow-
ers, he would pace the fellow Orange Brigade member, looking to see if he could sneak a wheel in, in one of these sharp ninety-degree turns. He
would stand his ground, never letting the number ninety-eight

proximity. He would end here, strongly, for a second overall. He then would look to du- plicate for the Mini Sr. (12-15) Limited class, battling with a bit older competition, but never batting an eye or wavering to thought of being bullied by an el- der. He would secure yet another second overall, after a mightily strong ride. The field would then head to the motocross sector of the event, where Fineis would simply go off on the competition.
Husqvarna’s. Making all in the camp proud, he was nearly dragging the footpeg up some of the takeoff’s trying to shave every little millisecond he could, in order to stay within the top three. Lap after lap, he would hold true to his pace, never letting the number 174 of Colip get around. He knew that this run-off meant everything, and the results from his heat races could be washed away. The pressure wouldn’t surmount, and the young man from Bayside, New York, would go on to bring home a very admirable third place finish across the checkered flag stripe. But his most spectacular performances were yet to be unveiled, as the third from earlier would merely light the flame in which was about to ignite. Lining up for a multitude of classes ranging in all types of 85cc divisions, Nick would come away with an astonishing, three thirds, a second, and a whopping three championships! It didn’t matter the genre of racing, what time of day the moto’s occurred, or whether the machine was stock or modi- fied, he could win on absolutely anything.

He would sign up for four classes, and his worst finish, would come with an astonishing fifth place overall! He would simply keep as- cending as the week went on, racking up not one, two, but three overall wins! Claiming an outlandish, five moto victories, he only had two moto finishes off the podium. Everything to be flowing in proper tune, as his stamina, bike setup, and confidence were all riding an all time high. Could Fineis be stopped? Was this truly his breakout party? If you were in attendance, you certainly had to be asking yourself these questions after noting his performance. He would leave the premises of the facility with his head held high, and rightfully so, he truly was the man to beat as the Thanksgiving week concluded. Everyone battling him for the 2019 season, better be on high alert.
THOMAS WELCH
Sporting the number ninety-eight KTM
ride, Thomas Welch had the 2018 Winter Olympics in Gainesville, Florida circled
on his calendar as soon as the New Year struck. Diligently preparing for this race,
he rode a variety of tracks, including both motocross and supercross, including the occasional arenacross track too. He wanted to be prepared in all facets, never leaving
a stone unturned. His abilities were that of the best, but he didn’t just want to rely on talent alone. He wanted to truly outwork the competition, drilling repetition after repeti- tion. He was breaking this supercross track into segments, assessing both weak links and strong points, concocting a plan with all of his crew alongside. It would pay off, as
a series of strong heat races would allow
