Scheming behind the gate prior to its falling, Bogle found himself wedged between two elite com-
petitors, Ken Roczen and Justin Brayton. Elbows out, leaned side to side, the Geico Honda pre-
vailed yet again, grabbing another holeshot on the season. Maneuvering the 450 as if it were a Schwinn BMX bike, Bogle placed the Japanese frame wherever he wanted around the course. The smooth, charismatic style was interrupted for a brief moment however near the beginning of lap two, as Ken Roczen shoved him to the tuff blocks and took the lead. Remaining calculated, he showed a hint of maturity and cruised to a runner-up finish, eyeing the big show that was to come.
Justin appeared to act as referee between to opposing parties during the start of the 450 main event, as timing and scoring placed him between Weston Peick and Vince Friese. Blackballed into eighth position as of lap two, he aggressively nipped at Eli Tomac’s wheel, searching for an optimum place of passing. Although not moving ahead of Tomac, he jumped into the seventh place ride on lap three, focusing on the events that were to come. A battle with Weston Peick began to ensue shortly thereafter, as the two were involved in quite the sparring match; but rather than joust with swords, the duo were clashing metal footpegs, rubbing paint in turn after turn. Bo- gle eventually had enough, and forced Peick to the wall, taking over seventh for the time being. A red storm began to fill the peripheral vision of the Geico Honda rider’s optics, as Trey Canard quickly approached JB. Although a valiant effort was made, Canard displayed his experience and made the move. A deep sigh followed, and breath of fresh air filled the lungs, but the relaxation was quickly swal- lowed by a fury of Baker’s factory counterparts; as Jason Anderson and Marvin Musquin made their way around, he now sat tenth. He would take the tenth all the way to the finish, putting in another impressive performance for his status of “rookie.”
