Paul Coates started his day off in New Jersey right where most expected, as the fastest privateer. By the end of all the qualifying sessions, he sat in 20th position but knew he could turn it up once the racing started. Paul came through when the gate dropped for 250 Heat 1. He came away with a
ticket to the Main event and would use the time to get rested up for the race that counts. When the Main began, Paul got off to a mediocre start and found himself in 15th at the end of lap one. He had his work cut out for him but struggled early. He shuffled back even further to the 18th position by lap 8 and was in survival mode at this point. It didn’t get any better for the Englishman as he ended up finishing the night off with a 20th position. He would use the week going into Vegas to get back to race shape and focus on qualifying for the East/West Shootout in Vegas.
