Southern Lakes
ITM
Cromwell’s finest has not only been nominated and rated by its suppliers as a 2019 Hardware Awards Finalist, but has also been singled out from its peers in the last couple of years by ITM for its growth, to the point where the operation has become one of if not the strongest operator in the Central Otago region. Shareholder Paul Piebenga too has also been recognised as having helped ITM “lift the bar”.

TE ANAU
As a Finalist, Te Anau Site Manager, Shane Byrne, says modestly, on behalf of his team: “We don’t do this for recognition and prizes, we do it for ourselves, the brand and most importantly the customer.” Modesty apart, what does he feel makes this store special? “The team, the team makes the store special. It is always about the people, the staff that went before us, through to the current team and of course the customers are great.”
Mitre 10
MARTINBOROUGH
Pain & Kershaw Mitre 10 was surprised to be named a Finalist this year, with Conor Kershaw saying the store (with its 130-year heritage), is
still on “a long journey” towards improving its trade offering. However, having been nominated by multiple suppliers for how well it goes about addressing the trade, the modest Martinborough store should take it that it’s already made good progress towards achieving its goals.

MOTUEKA
Depot Manager, James Marshall, says of Motueka being named a Finalist: “It feels like the hard work we have put in over the past few years is paying off. It has not been an easy road to build a reputable store from what was essential a garage with a couple of staff to where we are today, so it is nice to be recognised.” And what does he feel makes Motueka stand out? “Our store has a personal touch.”
