Page 18 - SB-Little Prince
P. 18
It is very natural for us to “want what we want, when we want it.” That is how most animals are designed by nature. Have you ever seen a bunch of little pigs at feeding time? They push and shove and stomp on each other to get to some not so nice looking food. Now, that may work okay in the barn yard but what would the school cafeteria be like if you did the same thing?
The problem was not that the Little Prince wanted things to go the way he liked; it was that he demanded that they go that way. He had a lot of Should and Must and Ought beliefs that caused him a lot of anger (a Not OK emotion). When he acted badly, he got what he wanted but ultimately it caused problems for him and everyone else in the kingdom.
1. When told by the doctor, that his diet was not healthy, what should or ought statements did he tell himself?
2. What were his emotions (OK/Not OK)?
3. What were his behaviors because of this thinking?
4. Give an example of when you might act like the Prince.
