I was truly amazed at the barrenness of the countryside.
I could see where houses had once been. There were the remains of roads, which obviously had not been used for a long time. I could see streams and even lakes but no crops in the fields. It was like a “Ghost Land.”
Then I realized the most frightening thing of all... there were no birds. Now, I have been to a lot of places but never one that did not have lots of birds. Even that big block of ice at the bottom of the world has birds, Penguins. They look a little strange and can’t fly worth anything but they are birds.
It was at this point that I decided to investigate this mystery. I took off flying west but found nothing. Then I went north but still nothing. I went east and then south and finally returned to the ruined castle having found nothing. As you can imagine, by this point I was pretty discouraged.
Then I noticed a small dot, high in the air, a great distance away. It kept getting closer and closer. Finally I could make it out, it was a buzzard.
