P. 16

I then decided to spend a little time with Paul and his mother before I took off flying south for the winter. I told Paul’s mother that I had seen this same problem with some other animals and frequently with human children.
I explained that in our wild animal world, we call it
“Stinky Thinking”. That means that you tell yourself things that don’t make any sense. Things like,”I should be able to have fun all the time” and “If it is not fun or if it is boring or difficult, I should not have to do it.”
Now most animals know that this thinking is foolish and will cause you to be unhappy or angry and will cause you to behave foolishly.
I could tell that Paul’s mother was beginning to understand. “So the things that Paul tells himself is why he will not pay attention in school and is so interested in pleasing the human visitors who come to the zoo?”
