I did my best to explain what I knew about humans
to Paul’s mother. I told her about the wooden nest humans live in. How they have picture boxes that talk, in every human home. I told her about human schools and that humans don’t have to hunt for food because they have something called stores.
Paul’s mother was amazed at everything I told her. Then she asked me, “Is it bad for human children if they are like my Paul?” I shook my head and said that it was even worse for human children who behaved like Paul.
“Humans have a very complicated life,” I explained. “They must go to their school for many years. If they play too much and not pay attention, they may not learn something that will be important when they grow up.”
I have seen many sad human adults who were like Paul when they were young. They did poorly in their school and seemed to be unhappy when they were adults. They wanted to play too much... just like Paul.
