Page 10 - G-Gold to Lead
P. 10

“Why would anyone want to do that for me?” demanded the Young Man. “And what makes you think I want to live in a town anyway?”
With that reply the Old Man said, “I’ve given you my most valuable possession and made suggestions of how to use it. But, of course it is up to you. What are you going to do with the brick of lead?”
The Young Man looked at the brick for a moment and said, “Why nothing.” And with that, he threw the brick of lead into the creek.
Now I ask you, what type of life do you think the Young Man had? Even crows know that you can only have so many opportunities. You have to take those opportunities and do something with them.
The Young Man had the opportunity to take a block of lead and turn it into “Gold.” Instead, he turned a “Golden” opportunity into “Leaden” regrets.
From this story, we crows learn not to expect anything to be easy just because we would like it to be that way. We learn that life is not fair and if you want it to turn out good, you must do something to make it happen. The Young Man in the story did not learn these lessons. Will you?
