Page 9 - G-Gold to Lead
P. 9
Then the Old Man asked if the Young Man had any children. The Young Man replied that he had two young children. The Old Man suggested, “You can make some doll molds. You could carve the molds, melt the lead, pour it into the molds and when it cools, you will have dolls for your children. Then they could have the fun of painting and dressing them.”
The Young Man fumed, “What makes you think my children would want homemade dolls? I would be too embarrassed to have others see my children playing with such toys.”
As my dear mother, Clara Crow would say, “The Young Man is just being difficult.” But I can bet there are times when you say things like the Young Man. “It’s too hard” or “I can’t do it” or “I’ve tried that before.”
When you act like the Young Man, you are missing opportunities. And as I said earlier, we crows never miss opportunities. Now let’s finish the story.
The Old Man was running out of ideas. Then he said, “In town, there is a new thing called plumbing. It will bring water right into your house. You must have pipes to move the water and at the joints of the pipes you pour melted lead to seal them. Lead is in much demand and if you took this lead brick into town and offered it to a plumber in exchange for him teaching you plumbing, then you could learn a skill and get a job.”
