Page 8 - G-Gold to Lead
P. 8

“What am I to do with this lead brick?” demanded the Young Man.
Well, said the Old Man, “I can see that you are out of musket balls. Your rifle is not any good without musket balls. You could melt the lead, pour it into a musket ball mold and then have many bullets for your rifle.”
The Young Man replied, “I’ve done that before. They never worked as well as store bought musket balls and I don’t intend to go to that much trouble doing something if it is not going
to work.”
The Old Man then thought for a moment and said, “You could make a large fishing net out of string and then cut the brick of lead into many pieces to be weights. Then tie the weights around the edge of the net. You could throw the weighted net into the creek to catch fish. Why this creek is full of fish and you would have all the food you could eat.”
“Oh sure,” said the Young Man with contempt. “I’ve never made fishing net. How do I know that this will work?
Why should I go to that much trouble if I can’t be sure it will succeed?”
