You know, as crows, we can’t have as much Stinky Thinking as you humans seem to have. After all, if I come to a new place, which happens very often, I have to try new and difficult things to get food, a place to stay and so on. If I were like the Young Man in the story and did not try anything new or difficult, I would have a hard time surviving. That does not mean that everything always turns out great. I remember one time when I found a fruit tree
I had never seen before. It was full of red berries and I was hungry. I ate all the berries and I got sick. There is nothing worse than a sick crow sitting in a tree under which you have parked your car. I think you get the picture. But you know what, I keep trying the fruit from unfamiliar trees. Sometimes the fruit is good and sometimes the fruit is not. That is how we crows learn.
That is what we have to do to survive. You have to be willing to try new things and not always expect that it will turn out great. You will have your share of “Not so good red berries” but that is what makes life fun. I think that is why this story is told to all young crows. Sometimes it is hard for us to see how foolish we are being but it is easy to see how foolish you humans are being.
1. What better things could the Young Man have told himself about using weights for a fish net ?
2. What kind of thinking is that?
3. How would he feel if he told himself something better?
4. What might be his behavior?
