Page 16 - G-Gold to Lead
P. 16

The Old man was running out of ideas for the Young Man to use the “Gift” of lead. Then he hit on the idea of using it to make dolls for the children. But there goes that Stinky Thinking again: “What makes you think my children would want homemade dolls? I would be too embarrassed to have others see my children playing with such toys.” Now, let me ask you a question. If you had no toys, would you care if someone gave you a homemade toy?
This may not seem like a big problem but the Young Man’s rejection of the idea has to do with being too worried about what other people think. I know that some of you may choose not to do as well as you could in school for fear that others might make fun of you for being “Teachers Pet.” You may make yourself angry with your parents if they refuse to buy you a particular shirt or shoes because you are telling yourself that without those particular shoes “I won’t fit in.” Even some grown-ups have not stopped this type of Stinky Thinking and make big grown-up decisions based not on what is best for them but because of what others might think of them.
1. What did the Young Man tell himself when the Old Man suggested he use the lead to make toys for his children?
2. What kind of thinking is that? 3. How did he feel?
