the USS Midway Museum, in San Diego, CA., and the only remaining US aircraft carrier commissioned right after WW11 ended that was not an Essex-class aircraft carrier.
In February 20, 1948, from Naples, Italy, Uncle George was given an Honorable Discharge (I have the original document because for some reason was sent to Grandma and Papa Adams). He must have reenlisted again because the very next day on February 21, 1948, he departed for leave and he returned from leave on March 28, 1948, to USS Midway. Muster rolls show him on board USS Midway on April 24, 1948; July 1, 1948, and September 1, 1948.
On November 10, 1948, in the Personnel Diary of the USS Midway, it states that as of October 10, 1948, Uncle George was transferred from Naval Operating Base in Guantanamo Bay Cuba to port in Continental US - FFT NATTC (Naval Air Technical Training Center – Aviation Schools) in Memphis, TN.
1948 – 1951: I am taking some liberties with this next part based on what I have found in research and from my personal memories. Brenda, Glenn and Sharon said that Aunt Mary didn’t talk much about her family and couldn’t assist very much so this is speculation to a certain degree.
1949: Uncle George married Mary Louise Warth in Hernando, Mississippi sometime in 1949. As to how they met, Aunt Mary was living in Blytheville, Arkansas, which is about 60 miles from where Uncle George was stationed. She told her daughter Sharon that a friend of hers fixed her up on a blind date with Uncle George.
