COSMOS EXPLAINS THE UGLY UNICORN
The ancient horses in the story became unicorns because they gossiped and made fun of others. Because they continued to do “not nice” things, their horns grew and grew. In the story, it was easy to tell who was “not nice.” In real life, it is much more difficult and it is easy to get into the habit of behaving like the unicorns in the story.
The unicorns acted the way they did because of their Stinky Thinking, just as you will when you do “not nice” things to others. Gossiping is saying something (truthful or untruthful) which is designed to make someone else look bad.
Gossiping is always caused by Stinky Thinking. It may be that someone is getting a lot of attention and you decide to tell something to “put them in their place.” Possibly, someone did something to you that you did not like, so you tell others something that will “get back at them.”
Your behavior, gossiping, is the result of your Stinky Thinking, not what the other person did or said. You are trying to make them look bad or yourself look better and you are engaging in “not nice” behavior. It can become easy for you to start “seeing” all the things that others are doing to you to make you unhappy. Then you tell yourself that you are justified in gossiping about them.
Or perhaps, you just like the attention you receive when you have a “juicy bit of gossip” to tell. Your friends gather around you to hear about what you are gossiping about.
