Page 27 - G-Fault Finder
P. 27

In the second part of the story, this young wolf fails in his responsibility during a hunt. He was not paying attention and the deer the pack was hunting escaped. But rather than take responsibility
he says, It is not my fault the large deer got away. All of you are just blaming me because you were too slow to catch it before it reached the stream.
Cosmos makes the point that in the human world, when you don’t do what you are supposed to do, you make excuses and whine and nothing terrible happens. But in this animal world, the pack went hungry for many days.
When that pack was finally able to get food, this young wolf was told that he would be the last to eat. This was the reasonable consequence for his behavior in the previous hunt.
But the young wolf did not see it that way, That’s not fair. If I am last, there will only be the tough meat left. You are always picking on me. Once again, the fault finder will see any inconvenience as a personal affront.
The story concludes with the recognition by the pack that the young wolf’s behavior is not going to change. Allowing him to stay with the pack will only encourage his fault finding and will threaten the survival of the pack. The decision is made to ban this young wolf to a life as a lone wolf, a very lonely life indeed.
In our real world, a habitual fault finder will be ostracized and they will, like this young wolf, lead a very lonely life.
