for $2,000 for five of them. I kept them until the exotic spring sale. They had been fed and groomed like show horses; when I took them into the ring, they brought an average of $3,000. WOW, we were going to promote miniature horses.
I was soon getting calls from all over the US and an auction in Ohio offered to pay me to bring minis to their sale. The thing we were doing differently was grooming intensely and presenting them in show halters. I’ll never forget a man asking me how I got so much for my minis and my response was “condition-condition- condition.” It’s the same with anything I sell.
One of the biggest sales in Sedalia was a mini horse sale that I produced and it happened on a Saturday in one of the worst ice storms imaginable. We sold minis for $500 all the way up to $10,000 to buyers from 23 states. We made quite a name for ourselves in the mini world at the time, but as things go, a lot of people got involved and the things leveled off. I still talk to Dominic, Timmy, Frankie and Mary Beth Lolli about the good old days.
