Page 6 - FS-Chocolate Festival
P. 6
On the first day of the festival there is a lot of excitement and running up and down the trees. The elders give out the stored candy. The oldest squirrels get their candy first, then the next to oldest get their candy and so on down to the one-year- olds. This year was going as smoothly as usual. Everyone knew what to expect and the candy was being given out fairly.
Nothing was unusual, until they called for a young squirrel named Squiggy, to come and get his share of the Chocolate. “No thank you,” said Squiggy. “I don’t want any chocolate. Give my share to someone else.”
The elders looked at each other with puzzled expressions. “What do you mean, you don’t want any,” they asked?
Then Squiggy explained, “Well, I tasted some when we were collecting it for storage and I did not like it. So, if it is all the same to you, give my share to those who will enjoy it.”
“This will never do!” said one of the elders. “Everyone has chocolate during the festival, as that is the way it has always been.”
“No thank you,” said Squiggy again. “I don’t want any chocolate. Give my share to someone else.” The elders looked at each other with puzzled expressions.
