I. M. Crow did stay out there on his branch day after day, practicing and practicing. His wing flapping was no longer as difficult and the ugly remarks of others were no longer embarrassing. He kept practicing until one day something very unexpected happened.
As I.M. was practicing his wing flapping, his feet left the branch and suddenly he was in the air... flying. Not just a little flying but flying very fast. His weeks of practice had made his wing muscles very strong and he was amazed at how fast he could fly.
Now I have to admit, I. M.’s landing looked pretty terrible but after all it was his first time trying. After he “crash landed” into the tree next to his nest, he jumped right up and flew away to try again. For the rest of the morning all he did was take off and land, take off and land.
