I. M.”s mother knew this day would come and was prepared. She smiled at I.M. and said, “Son, this Medal is for doing the scary or difficult things in your life. You have just found one of the scariest and most difficult things you will ever have to do in your life.”
“You mean wing flapping,” I.M. asked. “No, replied his mother, “One of the most difficult and scary thing to do in life is doing what you know you should do, even if others will make fun of you. From now on, the only way to earn your Medal is wing flapping.”
She could tell that I.M. was very disappointed. He had been so proud of wearing his Medal and now he may never get to wear it again. Days passed and no one mentioned the Trying Medal. I.M. would think about it but would tell himself, “I don’t really want that old Medal.”
