COSMOS EXPLAINS BEEING CIVIL
The fable, Beeing Civil, is a story about how you should treat others. Many of us don’t realize that learning how to treat each other in a Civil manner is an important skill.
It has taken humans thousands and thousands of years to learn to do things in ways that do not cause anger, fear or embarrassment to others.
Let’s look at two examples, the handshake and the hand wave. We use these when greeting others and never give much thought to it. But did you know that both the handshake and hand wave developed as ways of showing others that you did not have a weapon like a knife or sword in your hand and instead came in friendship?
As you might imagine in a society where life was dangerous, such a gesture was very important.
In your western, human culture, when someone speaks to you, it is courteous to look at him. In other cultures, it might be considered rude to look at someone who is speaking to you.
The rules of being civil vary from culture to culture. What is important to remember is that not learning the rules or ignoring them can cause you problems.
