Another parrot, apparently a friend, asked Polly that since Polly was tearing up her nest, could she have the flowers. The friend had gotten the flowers for Polly to use to decorate the nest.
Polly turned to her and said “Sure, take these ugly, half dead flowers. They are the reason I did not win. I don’t know why I trusted you to get the flowers. You never do anything right.”
My cousin, who was standing next to me, overheard the conversation. He said quietly, “Polly Perfect always has to have someone else to blame.”
Later that same day, the parrots gathered again. My cousin told me that this was the fruit gathering contest. He explained that the contestants fly off in search of the most appealing fruit. They only have a short time to find it and return to the gathering place.
The three judges then look at all of the fruit and decide which they find the most appealing.
He said that some parrots bring back bananas, others mangoes, others grapes, others oranges and on and on. He was making me feel really hungry and I was about to go off for a snack when the contestants flew into the air.
