I decided to wait around and see what they brought back. After all, they had been eating all day and they might not want some of the fruit they brought back for the contest. A nice mixed fruit salad sounded really good to me... bananas, mangoes, grapes, yum, yum.
Before long, the contestants started returning with the fruit in their beaks or claws. Bananas seemed to be the favorite but some were struggling back with melons and other types of fruit. Toward the end of the group I spotted Polly. She had a large stalk of beautiful red grapes. “Looks like Polly has a good chance of winning,” I said.
“We will see, we will see,” replied my cousin.
All of the fruit was set down in a clearing for the judges to inspect. I noticed that the judges arrived after all of the fruit had been set down and the contestants had flown into a nearby tree.
The judges studied each group of fruit. They tasted some and squeezed others with their claws. Their job looked like a lot of fun to me. They walked around and around studying the fruit. Finally, they made their decision. They all agreed that the most appealing fruit was the brown one with the green leaves on top.
