P. 7

“Oh no,” sighed my cousin, “The parrots are going to have their annual festival. It will be really noisy for the next few days.” I asked my cousin if this was a fun festival, like the one we have back home.
“Well,” he replied, “They have contests like who can find the best food and decorate the best nest and things like that. It ends with the ‘most appealing’ contest.”
“That sounds like fun,” I said. “Is it okay if we watch?”
My cousin said we could watch and that it should be a lot of fun, except for Polly. He told me how Polly would get upset and pout or worse, if she didn’t win.
I said, “But surely she understands that she can’t win everything she enters and that sometimes others win.”
My cousin looked at me with that crooked smile and said, “That’s why she’s Polly Perfect.”
There were green parrots from all over attending the festival. Oh, the noise! And I thought crows were loud. My cousin said that when they have one of these festivals, no one in the jungle gets any rest.
The first couple of days were spent visiting and eating, then the contests began.
