A long time went by until one day the nut felt damp and a little warm and he realized that he was starting to grow. He was very excited because in his memory were pictures of big trees, surrounded by other large trees. With that lovely image, our little nut dozed off again.
When he awoke, he realized that he was no longer a nut but a little... a little what? Not a tree for sure, maybe a little twig.
He realized that he was growing taller but so very, very slowly. In fact, after his first year on the mountain, he
was just one leaf taller than the rocks that were all around him. And then it got really cold and white and he fell asleep again.
