José Paulo – Ideal Decision
THE ORIGINS
I always say that I know people by their accomplishments and
history, actually, I am talking about knowing the essence of the
person, where they were forged, and if they like challenges. So, be-
fore talking about any other subjects, I would like to tell you, the
reader, a little about my family.
Faced with a difficult situation in Italy, precisely in the city of
Fregona, in the middle of the century XIX, my great-great-gran-
dparents Francesco and Maria Tafarelo, a fearless couple, decided
to try and have a new life in Brazil, with their five children. On
November 10th, 1897 they embarked facing nineteen long travel
days, full of hope.
Upon their arrival in Brazil, they set residence in the city of
Botucatu, but, driven by challenges, they did not think twice when
they were invited to work with coffee farming, which was at its
peak in Brazil, so they moved to the city of Santa Cruz do Rio
Pardo and started a hard work from dawn to dusk.
Time has passed and the couple’s grandson, my grandfather Au-
gusto Zanetti, fell in love with Lázara, a daughter of a well-known
Brazilian family in Santa Cruz do Rio Pardo.
The girl’s father could not accept his daughter to date an Ita-
lian immigrant, it was a wide-open prejudice at that time, but the
Italian man’s determination added to Lázara’s faith and love could
not have a different outcome than a marriage after a relationship
of five years.
