FIGURE OF EIGHT COIL
Purpose
This is a quick way to coil a rope prior to hanging it up, either for long-term
storage or simply to keep it temporarily out from underfoot in a working area
(since it can be quickly freed for re-use).
Tying
Middle the rope (that is, find the midway point and double it), then coil it, right-
handed (clockwise) if the rope is laid right-handed, starting at the bight and
working toward the two ends (figure 1). Wrap and tuck the bight as shown
(figure 2) and arrange the coils so that they are held snugly but not too tightly by
the enclosing figure of eight layout (figure 3).
