FIGURE OF EIGHT TRIPLE LOOPS
Purpose
This chair sling knot provides a loop for each leg and another to go around
beneath the armpits at chest height—but see the caution given for the similar
knot on the previous page.
Tying
First make a long bight and with the doubled line begin by tying a figure of eight
knot with a draw-loop (figure 1). Then bring the projecting single loop up and
over the front of the knot to be tucked as shown. Tighten the numerous knot
parts, at the same time adjusting the loops to the size required (figure 2).
Knot lore
This knot was first described and illustrated in the mid-1980s by the
accomplished Canadian climber Robert Chisnall, who later served as President
(1996–98) of the International Guild of Knot Tyers.
