Purpose
This variant of the common bowline (pages 70–71) has greater stability and
holding power, for use if the knotted line is to be towed through rough water or
dragged over uneven ground.
Tying
Form an initial loop in the standing part of the line, then add an identical second
loop above the first (figure 1). Tuck the working end as shown and tighten the
upper part of the knot first. Finally slide the lower half-hitch up snug beneath the
upper knot (figure 2).
