DOUBLE BOWLINE
Purpose
The extra wrapping turn of this knot—similar in layout to a double sheet bend
(page 82) adds strength and security. It is this doubled cinch around the bight of
the working end that has given this knot its misleading name, since it does not
have twin loops. When such a knot is required, use the bowline in the bight.
Tying
Overlap two identical loops and tuck the working end through both as shown
(figure 1). Tighten the knot (figure 2).
