DOUBLE FIGURE OF EIGHT HITCH
Purpose
Use this as a tougher alternative to the constrictor (pages 94–95) and strangle
knots (page 48) for demanding work that might prove too much for even those
two stalwart bindings.
Tying
Lay down a couple of alternate loops, then place another pair on top of the first
(figures 1–2). Insert the foundation as indicated, pick it up and turn it over, then
arrange and tighten the knot (figure 3).
Knot lore
Owen K. Nuttall, a member of the International Guild of Knot Tyers,
encountered this knot on his way to discovering the snuggle hitch (previously
described), but, it seems to me, that it makes a better binding knot.
