               When, some years ago, the editor of Knotting Matters—the quarterly magazine
               of the International Guild of Knot Tyers—asked readers which knot (if only one

               was  allowed)  they  would  like  to  see  taught,  the  insightful  John  Smith,  of  the

               Surrey  Branch  in  England,  proposed  this  knot.  It  could,  he  demonstrated,  be
               adapted for use as a knot, bend or hitch in every imaginable situation.
