BAG, SACK OR MILLER’S KNOT
Purpose
To seize and close the neck of a bag or sack, use this binding knot which relies
for its security upon being pressed against whatever it is tied around.
Tying
Make a loop and tie an overhand knot (figure 1). Tuck the other working end
(figures 2–3) and arrange as shown (figure 4). Place the result around the bag or
sack and pull on both ends to tighten into the final rope-like appearance (figure
5).
Knot lore
This is my own contrivance and will not be found in other knot books, although I
doubt whether it is wholly original. Someone else can probably claim to have
used it before me.
