YEP Grant We are excited to announce that we have received
YEP Grant
a $590 grant from the DeKalb County Community
Foundation’s Youth Engaged in Philanthropy (YEP)
program to be used for our annual Jazz at the Egyptian
Received for
Received for show. As a youth-led committee of the DeKalb County
Community Foundation, YEP exists to familiarize high
school students in DeKalb County with local nonprofits,
t the
Jazz at the grantmaking, and philanthropy. The program builds up to a
Jazz a
final meeting where members are responsible for reviewing
grant applications and distributing more than $12,000 into
the community. After recommendations are determined,
Egyptian YEP presents their grant decisions to the Community
Egyptian
Foundation Board of Directors for final approval. This year’s
YEP committee is made up of 63 high school students from
six different schools in DeKalb County.
The commitment and dedication of these students was
incredibly impressive. When they came to the Egyptian
Theatre for their site visit before they made their grant
decision, we were blown away by their clear preparation
and professionalism. We are so proud to have been selected
as one of the recipients of this wonderful grant and hope to
work closely with YEP more in the future.
The Egyptian Theatre was recently featured
W GN-T V our reopening after our historic expansion project. What
in a Chicago Scene story on WGN-TV that focused on
WGN-TV
an exciting moment this was for our 91-year-old venue!
With construction having officially wrapped up in October
of 2020, we have been anxiously waiting for patrons to
return to our newly renovated spaces. This story gave us a
wonderful opportunity to reintroduce ourselves in a virtual
format to those who have been to the Egyptian before
CHICAGO SCENE and may not have been aware of the massive upgrades we
have completed, but also this piece allowed us to reach an
audience that we have not touched before. We hope to find
new and exciting ways to continue to tell the story of the
Egyptian Theatre as we slowly return to normal.
