In Our Society |     Special Olympics





          The  Special  Olympic  Games  on  Long  Island,  New  York,  represent  a  powerful  celebration  of  courage,
          respect, and athletic achievement. Bringing together athletes with intellectual disabilities from across the
          region, these games provide a platform for competitors to showcase their talents, determination, and team
          spirit in a supportive and inspiring environment. Beyond competition, the event raises awareness about the
          abilities  of  all  individuals,  and  highlights  the  power  of  sports  in  building  confidence,  courage  and
          determination.

          Held  annually  with  the help  of  dedicated  volunteers,  coaches, healthcare professionals,  and  community
          partners,  the  Long  Island  games  embody  the  core  values  of  the  Special  Olympics:  dignity,
          inclusion, empowerment, and perseverance. This year's Long Island Regional Spring Games were held on

          May 3  at Plainedge High School in North Massapequa. The health screening was organized by Dr. Meena
          Kim (NYCDS-past president) and Anna Viron.  The oral health screening and exams were done by Drs. Vera
          Tang (President of NYCDS), Katayoon N. Leibowitz (Vice President NCDS), and Reginald Moncrieff (NYU),
          along with the valuable assistance from Fiona Kwai and NYU College of Dentistry D3 students: Sarina Chang
          and Victoria Ki (all standing in the photo). Their mascot Vito (seated) was also there to lend a paw. (See
