Veterans Relocating
When a veteran moves to another state, it is necessary to enroll as soon as
possible at the VA Medical Center (VAMC) closest to the area where the veteran
has relocated. This also applies to the veteran who moves to another area within
his/her state of residence, but where he/she will then be served by a different
VAMC.
Another very important task the veteran will need to accomplish is to register
his/her vehicle (if it’s an adapted vehicle) at the Prosthetics Dept. at the veteran’s
new VAMC. The veteran will also need to register with the new VAMC any
equipment (like a powerchair, AFO, etc.) that he/she may have received from
his/her previous VAMC.
By following these procedures, any future request for authorization for repairs,
etc. on the veteran’s VA issued equipment/vehicle can then be more easily
approved by the veteran’s new VAMC. This also applies to the veteran receiving
his/her annual Clothing Allowance.
