MYTHS v. FACTS
PVA VETERANS CAREER PROGRAM
MYTH: Veterans Career Program wants to move
Veterans off of benefits and back into the workforce.
FACT: Veterans Career Program staff work with PVA
members, their family members, their caregivers,
and all Veterans with disabilities to help them
identify paid employment, volunteer positions, or
educational opportunities. We have a team of
Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors trained to work
with you to protect your benefits as you work toward
your professional goals. We will work with YOU on
your goals and wishes.
MYTH: Veterans Career Program only supports
Veterans who want to return to work full-time.
FACT: Nearly half of the Veterans we have worked
with have secured part-time employment. Our role is
to assist PVA members, their family members,
caregivers, and Veterans with disabilities in
determining their personal career goals and helping
them achieve them. In addition to paid employment,
we also work with clients interested in volunteer work
and meeting training/education goals.
MYTH: Veterans Career Program staff are not
qualified to assist Veterans with significant
disabilities.
Veterans Career Program has six vocational
rehabilitation counselors, who have Master’s
Degrees and special certifications in helping
individuals with disabilities pursue career goals
and employment. The majority of Veterans Career
Program clients have a significant disability.
MYTH: If I do not have a Bachelor’s degree, I will not
be able to return to work.
FACT: There are many fantastic opportunities for
individuals of all backgrounds, experiences, and
education levels. Veterans Career Program staff are
also able to assist our clients with pursuing any
educational goals they may have through training,
certifications, or degrees. Additionally, our team works
within your financial means to find cost efficient ways to
help you grow professionally (free certifications, free
training, and using other benefits such as GI Bill, and
Veterans Readiness and Employment (VR&E)).
