President’s Report
Happy December 2021 to all my Arizona Paralyzed Veterans of America
Brothers and Sisters.
Well, here we are. As the year ends and we move into 2022 there are so
many things to reflect on about 2021.
First, I will start with the selling of our property on Camelback & Seventh
Avenue and the purchase of the property located at 1001 E. Fairmont Ave.
Phoenix AZ, 85014. The transition from one property to the other was
nothing but difficult every step of the way. The property on Camelback
there were issues with City of Phoenix and paying attorneys to assess the
value of the Arizona Chapter property to the individuals who were
purchasing it. As result closing on the property was extended. The Chapter
could not close on the property we were selling therefore we could not
close on the property the Chapter was purchasing. After numerous phone
calls and meetings Peter Quinn Executive Director of the Chapter and his
staff finally resolved the issues that needed to be taken care of and closing
finally happened on both properties.
In February of 2020 the Chapter finally moved into the property at 1001 E.
Fairmont. After settling in Peter and his staff had lots of work to do. The
property has three buildings on it. One building is used as office space.
One building has three apartment units. And the third building will
eventually be used as a group home. Each building needed lots of work.
We started with the office to make it functional for PVA day to day business
operations. Once the office was completed Peter and his staff started on
the apartment units. Taking bids from contractors who would remodel the
apartments, so they are totally accessible. Floors, showers, light switches,
doorknobs etc. I am happy to say that three of the units should be rented
by January of 2022. After that the next major project the Chapter will
embark on is the Group home. This project will certainly take a lot of man
hours by staff and all others involved.
Other things to reflect on are projects the Chapter staff are involved in.
Dawn continues to do incredible work with Outreach. She collaborates with
Veterans and non-vet organizations as well. Due to her outreach a lot of
donations are given to the PVA Arizona Chapter. Scott continues to do a
great job with all the material donations: both medical and non-medical. He
makes sure every item coming in is labeled, tagged and put into a spread
sheet. He makes sure everything is accounted for, coming in and going out.
