                          The Crossword Puzzle!

The first book of crossword puzzles was published by Simon & Schuster in 1924.
Cross-word puzzles had been around for awhile, but didn’t catch on till December 21, 1913, when
Arthur Wynne, a journalist from Liverpool, England, published a “word-cross” puzzle in the New York
World that embodied most of the features of the modern genre. It was first known as a Word-Cross
Puzzle, which then was re-named the Cross-Word Puzzle.

The puzzles became weekly features in many of the leading newspapers, holding prize competitions
for completed puzzles. - Keeping the tradition alive, teenLook wants you to earn a prize for com-
pleteing this Cross-Word Puzzle featuring trivia and facts about the 20’s. - On the right is my version, a
freeform puzzle, as creating a functional “cross-word puzzle” is extremely time consuming. But, I hope
you will have fun doing this one!
