Condition:Good; original hardware, old finish Ursuline Convent, New Orleans, LA
While the buffet bas has a French Canadian precedent, in Louisiana, they appear to have only been made for the Ursuline Convent in New Orleans. The form waaslso used in Canada and in the Upper Mississippi Valley, and in the Anglo world, it’s often referred to, at least by collectors, as a “jelly cupboard.” This buffet is illustrated and discussed in Holden et al, Furnishing Louisiana, p. 225.
