There simply are no comparable sales of a true French colonial armoire from the past twenty years. Though perhaps a bit less splashy than the inlaid Creole armoires of the early 19th century, the subject armoire most assuredly ranks very highly among all Louisiana armoires, at least in terms of value. The comparable sales offered are all of later armoires, with varying degrees of creolization, but they clearly illustrate the very strong market for significant armoires made in early Louisiana. The value for the subject armoire resides between the record highs of the peak market (2003- 2004) and the more recent strong sales.
