ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES (ACCOMMODATIONS)
Accessibility Services (Accommodations): Elmira College is committed to providing equitable access and an inclusive
learning environment for all students, including students with documented disabilities. Students must provide
current documentation in a timely manner attesting to the specific nature of their disability to Dr. Magan Straight,
Manager of Student Success and Accessibility Services, at accommodations@elmira.edu or in the CAPE Learning
Commons in the Gannett-Tripp Library. We encourage you to schedule a meeting with Dr. Straight to review
documentation, discuss accommodations, and receive assistance with the process. If you have questions concerning
this, please contact your instructor, academic advisor, or Dr. Straight.
It is the policy of Elmira College (EC) that no otherwise qualified person shall, by reason of disability, be denied
access to, participation in, or benefits of any service, program, or activity operated by the college. Qualified
students will receive reasonable accommodation/modification to assure equal access to all aspects of learning,
employment with the college, programs, and other activities. If you need academic support because of a
documented disability, you may be eligible for academic accommodations through disability services for students.
THE ELMIRA COLLEGE CODE OF CONDUCT BANS HARASSMENT
Elmira College is committed to fostering a safe, productive learning environment. The Elmira College Code of
Conduct bans harassment, which is defined as “conduct of a non-sexual nature, which creates an intimidating, hostile,
or offensive environment for another person.” The Elmira College Policy Against Gender Discrimination and Sexual and
Other Misconduct bans gender discrimination and harassment, including harassment of a sexual nature. This Policy
complies with the legal requirements for all Colleges set forth under Title IX of the Higher Education Amendments of
1972. Harassment and discrimination are not acceptable at Elmira College. In most cases, if you believe you have
been subject to harassment in a class at Elmira College, talking to your instructor should be your first step. Otherwise,
you should contact your academic advisor, the Title IX Coordinator, or the Office of Counseling and Retention to
address your concerns.

SOCIAL JUSTICE, RESPECT & TOLERATION
Elmira College is committed to upholding social justice and expect to maintain a positive learning
environment based upon open communication, mutual respect, and non-discrimination. Any suggestions as
to how to further such a positive and open environment in this class will be appreciated and given serious
consideration.
The issues we will be covering in this class may evoke a variety of differing opinions and comments.
Successful college-level learning requires the careful analysis and dissection of arguments, our own and
those of others. In accomplishing this, we must commit ourselves to listening with respect (not necessarily
agreement) to the views of all members of our group and to articulating our own views.
